Australian Company Reference Data

Sirca offers a range of resources to help researchers with studies into Australian companies. The Australian Company Announcements (ACA) database provides on-line access to the text of company disclosures made as part of the Australian Securities Exchange's continuous disclosure rules, from 1992 to present day.

Where necessary, Sirca converts documents into machine-readable text files in order to enable machine processing of disclosures, meaning for example that the entire series can be free text searched. It is also possible to sort the database by ASX instrument code, and by the ASX listing rule under which a disclosure is made. This database is available to members and subscribers to Sirca under license from the ASX.

The ASX Library Collection (ASXLib) is a deep archive of Australian company reference data, including articles of association, balance sheets, submissions and other company announcements.

Data is available from 1958 to 1996, in the form of Tagged Image File formatted images of the original documents. The documents are available on-line, and can be retrieved using the legacy ASX alphanumeric codes for each company, and via document category.

The Australian Annual Report Record (ARR) database is an historical record of the published annual accounts of Australian listed companies. All significant balance sheet data is recorded for each company. This is the most comprehensive summary of Australian corporate financial data available to 1985.

It is useful for a variety of purposes including equity selection for portfolio management and time series and cross-sectional analysis of companies. The ARR coverage begins in 1951 with approximately 200 companies to over 1000 by 1985. 750 were listed, including almost full coverage of the top 500 by market capitalisation. Up to 124 balance sheet and income statement items are extracted from each annual report.

The ARR retains delisted companies and covers an extended time period to allow pure and applied research to be carried out. The Australian Share Price and Price Relatives (SPPR) database is an historical record from December 1973 to present of ASX monthly share prices and calculated price relatives of all Australian listed and previously listed companies with fully paid shares. For each company, the share price, dividends including franking credits, adjustments for share issues and reconstructions, number of shares on issue and price relatives are held on a monthly basis. Pertinent company name information is also supplied.
