FinRank or (Finance Academic Ranking System) is an on-line service which enables finance academics or academic institutions to determine their ranking by number of publications in scholarly finance journals. The user is able to select finance journals, and/or the geographical region and/or the years in which they would like their rank to be assessed.

   FinRank Overview

FinRank provides a global ranking system which allows academics or academic institutions to assess their productivity relative to their peers. It is designed to assist academics or academic institutions in the job market with important comparative information on research productivity.

FinRank is a ranking system which allows users to select the finance journals, geographic region and/or years in which they seek a productivity ranking. The FinRank database contains a list of publications in finance journals from the year 2000 to date, and classifies institutions (and their academics) according to the geographic regions - Australia, Asia-Pacific, Europe and America. There are 19 journals currently covered by the database including:

  2. Journal of Financial Economics
  3. Review of Financial Studies
  4. Journal of Business
  5. Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis
  6. Financial Management
  7. Journal of Financial Research
  8. Journal of Banking and Finance
  9. Journal of Portfolio Management
  10. Financial Analysts Journal
  11. Financial Review
  12. Journal of Financial Intermediation
  13. Journal of Financial Services Research
  14. Journal of Futures Markets
  15. Journal of International Money and Finance
  16. Journal of Business Finance and Accounting
  17. Pacific Basin Finance Journal
  18. Accounting and Finance (articles with JEL classification G only)
  19. Australian Journal of Management

FinRank is flexible in that the user can select the journals, years and geographic region in which they want to be ranked. For example, a user can ask to be ranked amongst academics (i) in the Asia-Pacific region, (ii) who published articles in the years 2000 and 2001, (iii) in the Journal of Finance and Journal of Financial Economics.

   How to use FinRank

FinRank is a product that is easy and intuitive to use. There are only 3 steps to generating a ranking report.

Step 1: Select Your Criteria
From each of the list boxes, select all of the criteria that you wish to include in your final report. For example, if you are only interested in academics that have published in the Journal of Finance, you would select the Journal of Finance from the 'Journal' list box and select all of the academics you are interested in from the 'Academic' list box.
(Hint: To select multiple criteria in one list box, hold down the control key and select the individual criteria you need.)
(Hint: To select a block of criteria in one list box, hold down the left mouse button and drage the cursor over the block you wish to select.)

Step 2: Select Your Report Type
Click the 'Select Report' drop down box to display a list of available reports. Then select the report type that you want.

Step 3: Generate Your Report
Click the Generate Report button and your report will be displayed to you.
