LATEST LINKAGE GRANT SUCCESS: COMBATING ID FRAUD
A
cross-disciplinary team of researchers from five universities
have been awarded a $531,000 ARC Linkage Grant to investigate
identity fraud in collaboration with the AUSTRAC Proof of
Identity Steering Committee. The grant continues SIRCA’s
successful record in facilitating collaborative grants of
national importance on behalf of its university members and
in partnership with industry and government.

ORGANISATIONAL INFORMATION LANDSCAPES: HIGHWAYS OR DIRT TRACKS?
The digital information environment is becoming ever more
complex. Organisations are now faced with the problems of
managing multiple information products, multiple information
systems and multiple information users.
Sue Fowell (UTS) and Paul Scifleet (UNSW) are undertaking
research, sponsored by SIRCA that will provide a snapshot
for organisations traveling along the information super-highway.

INTERNET SCAMS EXPOSED
Anyone who has received a letter from Nigerian fraudsters
knows the language of a scam - a desire for secrecy, the invitation
to break the law, and the promise of outlandish returns.
SIRCA’s research partner, Capital Markets Co-operative
Research Centre (CMCRC) is undertaking a huge software development
project that scans the Internet 24/7 looking for dubious money
scamming outlaws.

ENCOURAGING RESEARCH EXCELLENCE IN AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST FIELD
OF STUDY
In December 2002, in an attempt to encourage local talent,
SIRCA announced its sponsorship of the SIRCA Research Award
at the Australian Banking & Finance Conference 2002 and
offered a cash reward to the academics judged to present the
best paper using SIRCA data.

Nobel Laureate Visit
Dr Vernon Smith, 2002 Nobel Prize winner in Economics, and
members of his research team from George Mason University,
visited SIRCA to discuss research alliance.

Dr David Gallagher and Adrian Looi from the University of
New South Wales have provided the first detailed examination
of the trading activities of active Australian institutional
equity managers.
