Security, Assurance, Fraud-Prevention For e-Business (SAFE)

Overview

Security, Assurance, Fraud-prevention for E-business (SAFE) is a Research Program within SIRCA directed by Rodger Jamieson, Associate Professor from the University of New South Wales.

This program conducts management and technical research on a range of security, assurance and fraud-prevention issues focused on the e-business domain.


Objectives

  • Security and control of e-business systems with an emphasis on the design of secure and auditable systems
  • e-Crime, ID fraud, and computer forensics methodologies, legal issues and tools and techniques
  • Assurance of systems, transactions and databases
  • Risk management and the identification of risks to e-business systems
  • Risk security and controls within particular domains - e.g. the financial markets/wholesale banking sector
  • Development of tools and techniques to assist management and auditors in the detection of fraud within e-business systems
  • Development of continuous audit/management monitoring and surveillance systems for e-business
  • Trust in e-business
  • Privacy within information systems
  • Corporate governance security and assurance

Researchers

Dr Rodger Jamieson
Dr Rodger Jamieson is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Systems at the University of NSW and is the director of SEAR (Security, E-Business, and Assurance Research) group and also directs the SAFE (Security, Assurance, & Fraud-prevention for E-Business) Research Program for SIRCA. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, member of the Australian Computer Society and an Information Systems Auditor from the Information System Auditor and Control Association (USA). He serves on international journal editorial boards and is involved in teaching and research in the areas of Information Systems assurance and security, risk management, e-crime and identity fraud, computer forensics, and electronic commerce.

Ken Stevens
Ken Stevens is a lecturer in the School of Information Systems Technology and Management at the University of NSW where he teaches and researches in the fields of information systems security and audit. His special research interest in is software development project risk and is applying risk management theory to this area. Ken has previously worked as a lecturer at the Australian National University, and prior to this had extensive consulting experience in IS audit and security at Arthur Andersen & Co., Price Waterhouse and Howarth and Howarth.

Greg Stephens
Greg Stephens is a Lecturer in the School of Information Systems, Technology and Management at the University of New South Wales. He lectures in Decision Support Systems, Database and Systems Analysis and Design. His research involves group communications and social networks within organisations, expert systems and audit and security concerns. He has previously worked as an information systems professional and internal auditor at UNSW.

Christine Van Toorn
Christine Van Toorn is Director of the BIT/ISM Cooperative Scholarship Program at the University of NSW and lectures in the School of Information Systems, Technology and Management. She was formerly a Manager in the Computer Audit Assurance Services Group at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, and prior to this held several internal IS Audit positions at QBE Insurance and Tubemakers of Australia. She has many years of experience in the security and audit of information systems and technology with a number of major organisations in Australia.
