How do I obtain data?

All data consults are to be submitted online via the Data Consult Form. This new process allows for the automatic lodgement of data consults, more rigorous internal quality checks, and better fulfills the reporting requirements of the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) and Reuters. The online data consult process has been designed to ensure the best possible response times and quality of data output. To access SIRCA's Data Consult Form, researchers must be from a Member University.

How can I streamline the data consult process?

The current online data consult process can be streamlined by ensuring mandatory fields are filled out and clear information is provided, such as:

  • Date ranges
  • Stocks (RIC codes if using Reuters)
  • Default values if field not valid

Helpful hints:

  • Provide a layout or format for your output data
  • List and number all the fields that you need
  • Define the exceptions (Instrument does not trade)
  • Do not mix the same time intervals in the same file if possible (monthly/daily/transaction based)
  • Make sure that you can handle the volumes of the data that is going to be returned

SIRCA provides a large number of pre-programmed metrics which measure liquidity, volatility, transparency and transaction costs. Understanding and using these pre-programmed metrics can keep data consult time to a minimum. To review these metrics and their definitions please see SMARTS© Metrics.
