New $12m national Big Data Knowledge Discovery initiative launches at SIRCA

Last night SIRCA, NICTA, Macquarie University and the University of Sydney launched a new national research collaboration around applying the latest Big Data and Machine Learning software tools and techniques to some of today’s grand scientific challenges in Ecology, Geology and Physics.

Dr Rob Stokes MP, Member for Pittwater and Parliamentary Secretary for Renewable Energy commended the initiative and commented on how this project may not only be the key to unlocking many great scientific riddles like Sir Richard Southwood former Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford’s quest for a “periodic table” of ecology but also contribute new tools to advance fundamental understanding of other unrelated areas such as nutrition and medical science.

More details of this project and a full press release can be found here.

The Big Data Knowledge Discovery project was also reported in The Australian newspaper on Thursday 6th June, 2013. You can find a copy of this news article here.
